REIKI.....REIKI & more REIKI...............
~May all who read these words be healed~
That which is a mystery shall no longer be so, & that which has been veiled will be revealed; that which has been withdrawn will emerge into light, and all women shall see & together will rejoice!
~ Alice Bailey
I beieve there exists one Supreme Being- the ABSOLUTE INFINITE- a dynamic force that governs the world & the universe. It is an unseen spiritual power that vibrates & all other powers fade into insignificance beside it...So therefore it is the ABSOLUTE... I shall call it "REIKI"...Being a universal force from the Great Divine Spirit it bleongs to all who seek and desire to learn the art of helaing.
~ Hawayo Takata
Writing [a book] on reiki is a cosmic joke, like chasing your own shadow. It is present wherever & whenever we may be, yet evades our intellectual judgement the moment we turn to look at it.
~ Frank Arjava Petter
~ It is from here that I will begin to try and shed some light unto the subject of REIKI.....walk with me........namaste~*~
What is Reiki? What are its origins & history?
Is it a religion?
Who can learn reiki & how?
What does Reiki do?
The proof is in the pudding~Spirit or Science? ok..where do we go from here???????????
~ Reiki is energy!!!!!!!!!(nrg) pure and simple ~
~Linguistically the word Reiki can be broken down into constitunent parts, the REI and the KI.
~The REI is translated to mean holy, spirit, mystery, gift, nature spirit or invisible spirit, universal or divine.
~The KI is translated to mean energy, nature scene, talent and feeling. A few familiar terms with a similar meaning of KI are "PRANA" in India, "RUACH" in Hebrew, "BARRAKA" in Islamic countries, and "C'HI" in China.
~Everything, I mean everything, from the tinyest particles of matter to the cosmos itself consists of nrg. You~me~plants~animals~the elements~the sun~moon~stars~.........everything is KI, everything radiates a life force energy...seen or unseen! As humans we are given the freedom of choice to connect with this energy, or not, to take what is "potential" nrg (KI) & evolve it to a higher level of vibration or "kenetic " nrg, if you will. When one is initated into the ancient art of healing with Reiki, that potential becomes awakened & the healing begins to flow.
ORIGINS & HISTORY ~Reiki's origins can be linked back to the times when Jesus & Buddha (SIDDHARTHA GAUTAMA 620-543 BCE) walked the earth. Many people believe that both Jesus & Buddha's healing techniques were in fact Reiki techniques! Others claim to have found reference to Reiki in the esoteric teachings of India and the Tibetan Sutras (holy books).
~Traditional Reiki's history begins in the late 1800's with Dr. MIKAO(MI) USUI. It is from here that the progression of the events in Dr. Usuis life vary. I will let you do the reasearch for yourself & discover the colorful array of stories sourrounding his quest for " the way". Basically, Mikao Usui, a man dissatisfied with what life was offering & a driven to seek something "more" he began his quest for answers to the " divine mysteries" of life. It is said while meditating on Mt.Kurama he experienced a SATORI. ( enlightenment-fleeting glimpse of a higher order or sudden undersatnding) It was revealed to him the ancient ways of healing at one with the divine life force energy, a method if initation, how to activate this nrg & sacred symbol which would intensify & direct its effects. Usui would name this nrg "REIKI". ~For the next several years Usui spent his time doing healings & teaching thruout Japan. This is where he met Chujiro Hayashi, a retired Naval Officer. It is unknown with exact certainty how many people recieved the Masters Degree of Reiki from Usui. Hayashi did recieve his masters training in 1925 at the age of 47.With the death of Dr. Usui in 1930, Mr. Hayashi became his reported successor & is credited with keeping Reiki' practice alive. Hayashi opened his own Reiki clinic in Toyko & here is where he met Ms. Hawyao Takata, who came to him for healing.
~Born Hawyao Kaumura, on Dec. 24 1900 on the isalnd of Hawaii, it is Ms. Takata who brought Reiki from east to west. Ms. Takata had taken seriously ill following the death of her husband in 1930. Several years later after unattainable welness Ms. Takata was guided to Hayashi's clinic in Toyko. After recieving Reiki treatments she was completely healed, BODY~MIND& SPIRIT! Following this amasing transition from illness to wellness she asked to become trained in the ways of Reiki. Ms. Takata recieved her first degree training in spring 1936 & second degree in 1937. She then returned to Hawaii to open her own clinic. Come winter of 1938 Hayashi visited Ms. Takata & passed to her her final teaching/master attunement. Feb. 22, 1938 Mr. Hayashi announced Hayao as his successor.
~On May 10,1941 Chujiro Hayashi died. After his death Ms. Takata is reported to have trained hundreds of people in Reiki & made 22 Reiki masters. Hawayo Takata died on Dec. 11 th, 1980.
~Phyllis Furmoto ( Takata's grandaughter & successor) was nammed the Grand Master of the Usui Traditional Reiki System. (Usui Reiki Ryoho)
~Since this point in time Reiki has undergone many significant changes. Traditional Reiki has branched off into at least 3 major schools, each claimimg to be "the one" true Reiki & discrediting all others. Many new levels have been added/altered along with rules for set timimg of initation/attunement & fees are almost always charged. Proper lineage & authentic certificates are held in high esteem.
~A new non-traditional (modern)approach has emerged. It, to me, seems more reminicant of Reiki's ancient origins. Placing less emphasis on lineage, price & certification modern Reiki focuses on abundant healing. Awakening ones intuition & the potential nrg to heal which lives within us all. Particularly with the state of the worlds affairs today don't you think that our Great Mother Earth & all her children could use a bit of healing?
IS IT A RELIGION?
~No. While Reiki is not a religion in the conventional sense, there exists no dogma or set litany, there does exist however, the Reiki Principals & some general guidelines for healing. One does not need to be perfect in practice or follow the guidelines at all times, as Reiki is one with the Divine Source. It will always work for the highest good & greatest regard. It may sound funny but Reiki is fool proof!:)
WHO CAN LEARN REIKI & HOW? ~This may be the easiest question of all to answer. ANYONE!!! Men-women-children-teenagers-this sick-the healthy-the living & the dying. It's never too early or too late to learn Reiki. Reiki requires no intellectual grasp of it's process or product. Reiki simply is, RE-member?? You do not even have to believe in it for it to work. Just as the sun rises in the morning and sets in the evening so remains the infinite wisdom & healing power if Reiki! Never to abandon it's companion, forever a source to be called upon in times of need.
~Reiki's history, symbols and techniques are taught thru the spoken & written word. The actual attunement/initation is passed directly from teacher/master to the student. (traditionally) The sacred symbols are drawn into the students CHAKRAS/AURA (energy field) thru a few moments of meditation and ritual.
~ Traditionally Reiki is divides into 3 degrees/levels.
Reiki I...an opening & clearing of the chakras/aura takes place, symbols are transfered into the aura and into the students hands. An initial awakening of this potential nrg is heightened into a state of active awareness. The ethics of the Reiki principals and the request for permission (from the recipient) to perform the healing as well as techniques for "hands on healing" & "self healing" are also explained.
Reiki II...A refinement of nrg channels happens with more attunements & the Reiki II symbols are given, in the aura as well as visually to the student with instruction on how to draw them and thier meanings/uses. Distant healing methods are revealed. Reiki III
Further attunements are passed, the master symbol revealed and instruction on becoming a teacher and how to pass attunements is given. Usually at this level one has committed with mind and heart to living with Reiki as being an active part in one's everyday life and willingness to dedicate time to teaching others.
~In the modern approach things are somewhat similar.....degrees, symbols & the attunement process may or may not match up. The masters knowledge of history & teaching techniques should always be taught. More emphasis is usually placed on the student learning to engage their own flow, to trust in themselvs and their intuition and for Reiki to lead the way.
~On an end note as to how one learns Reiki, within the modern approach, the teacher usually passes attunements person to person, in the physical here & now... BUT.......the possibility does exist and it can be done (and often is) for the teacher to pass attunements astrally, trancending space and time. If you think about it (I can never fully understand , myself, why traditionalists disagree here...) the atunement itself IS a physical attunement/initation/ritual awakening of the students chakras/aura/astral realm. Also, in the second degree the student is given symbols (which may be respectively drawn OR visualised) to permit absentee/ distant helaing... Furthermore... if Reiki's source is one with the Divine Source , which permeates all BE-ING, is allready a potential nrg which we all posess and intent is certainly the key ingredient for healing............WHY THEN WOULD A DISTANT ATTUNEMENT BE IMPOSSIBLE???????????but that is just my humble opinion...anyway- onward & upward~
